Statement of intent

For my final outcome I will be creating 10 textures for 3d street project. It will require textures of different types of buildings and surfaces. My street will have two different types of buildings, one side will have third world type buildings and the other will have business area type buildings. For 3 world building textures I did some research using google maps

will try to achieve a bit run down textures for example dirty walls broken window or muddy grass. For the business area I also did some research

and will be using textures that have bright colours for example marble texture and and bluish windows for skyscrapers.
I will be using PhotoShop to create these textures and a range of techniques that I learned during this course.

Texture research by taking photos.

I decided to create a street with as much contrast as posible which meants that iam going to create a street in two different styles, poor neighborhood and a rich or busines area.

Mood Board

Research on textures used in video games and art and design
I found some images of 3d houses made in similar style that I want to create my 3rd world side of street in.

After researching on games that have maps with houses in poor shape I selected a game called half life 2.
What I liked about this game's house textures was that they make houses look abandoned and like they slowly falling apart but it isn't done over the top.
And this is the second game I researched called Call of Duty 1. It has similar textures as half life 2 but houses look more worn down and destroyed.
I liked brick and debris textures in this game even though all the textures in the game were too grey.

Here is an example of grass texture from the same game which isn't looking too good.

Grass textures

Rooftop texture
I created this texture by using a reference image from which I got the outline of roofs pattern and then just drew the rest of shades and shadows.

Road texture

Pavement textures

Rock texture

Brick wall texture

Most of these textures are final designs for texture library.

Flame texture
We had a demo today on how to create a basic flame or lava texture.
First we used clouds filter and then difference clouds a few times till it looked like this (ctrl-f to repeat action difference clouds a few times)
After that went to image>adjustments>gradient map and played around with colours till go the result that I liked

Corrugated iron

For this demo we took a new canvas of 900x900 unlocked a layer and used rectangular marquee tool and selected area.
Then used reflected gradient tool with light grey and black colours selected.

The next step was to define pattern with edit>define pattern. Then selected the whole canvas with rectangular selection tool and used fill with options selected use: pattern and in custom pattern select pattern that you have defined.
after you get this you can create new layers add rust on top or create some other imperfections to make this look more realistic.
some experimenting

creating a brick wall

Today we had a demonstration on how to create a brick wall.
To create a brick wall first you have to have a brick texture so we started by selecting brown and dark grey and using filter clouds. Then added some noise (amount: 3) and created a new layer in chanells, added difference clouds (can try repeating  difference clouds till you get result that you want) , added same amount of noise as before. After finishing all that I went back to layers and applied lightning effects filter (texture: alpha 1).
This is the result that I got.
so now time for easiest. We can just use the whole picture as a brick and repeatedly copy it to create a brick wall or take separate sections of image to avoid repetitiveness.
This is my final result.
